What is the Unborn? #2

By Joanne S

The Pro-Life position is Philosophically sound,Their are four main differences between the fetus and a New Born None of which are relevant:. Size, Level of development, Environment and Degree of Dependency.

1. Size:  The fetus is smaller than a New born, but does size make us Human? If it did and the fetus is indeed not Human or less Human than a New born because of its size then this would be true for other stages in development. A New born would be less Human than a Toddler and a Toddler would be Less Human than a Teenager and a full size Adult. What about those People who are dwarfs does their size make them less Human? I am sure their was probably a point in history ware the Dwarf Person was viewed as not Human or less Human, that is clearly not the case Today.

Obviously Size is not the issue and clearly irelevent.

2. Level of Development:  A fetus is less developed than a New born, True. But does development make us Human? If it did and the fetus is not Human or less Human because of the Level of Development, then this to would have to be true for other stages in development. A New born is less developed then a Teenager. A 2 year old child has not yet developed ther sex organs completly and the brain of children is not even fully developed until Adulthood. Is a child less Human than a teenager and is a teen less Human than a Adult because of their Level of Development.

Obviously Level of Development is not the issue and irelevent.

3. Environment: Why would a change in environment make a fetus less Human? Why should it be considered not Human or less Human inside the womb and fully Human outside the womb? A change in Environment doesn’t change who you are, or how Human you are. The only difference between a fetus born at 21 weeks and a fetus in the womb at 21 weeks is Environment and the location. Is the fetus who is born at 21 weeks more Human? Both are in the same stage of development, both are the same size, both will continue to grow. The only difference is Environment. Are you still Human when you change your environment or Location? Yes

Obviously the Environment and Location are not the issue and irelevent.

4. Degree of Dependency:True the fetus is more dependent then a New born, But does this make the fetus less Human? If Level of Development indeed made the fetus not Human or Less Human than this would have to be true for other stages in our Life, A New born is more dependent then an 8 year old and the 8 year old is more dependent than a fully grown Adult. When we become to old to care for ourselves we become more dependent are we then less human? What about a person with Down Syndrome or others who are severely handicap they are completely dependant on others for their survival, should they like the Unborn be seen as Less Human because of their Level of Dependency? Their are many people who depend on others to be alive more examples are a person on life support, on dialysis, insulin all of these people will die if they did not depend on these things for their life again are they less Human?

Obviously Level of Dependency is not the issue and irelevent.

So what is the issue? Clearly the Unborn are fully Human
